Feminism in the Marvel Transmedia Storytelling: Representation of Women in The Defenders Universe on Netflix

Anotácia:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje analýze reprezentace hlavních a vedlejších ženských postav v populárních komiksech a TV seriálech transmediálního vesmíru The Defenders. V první části se věnujeme vysvětlení klíčových pojmů, proměně ženských postav v komiksech Marvel a DC v průběhu druhé a třetí vlny feminismu, jejich porovnání v obdobích ze 40. let po současnost a také vlivu transmediálního storytellingu na komiksové příběhy. Druhá část se zaměřuje na TV seriály vesmíru The Defenders od Marvel ukazující zastoupení hlavních a vedlejších ženských postav v nich: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage a Iron Fist. Na vybraném materiálu chce práce ukázat, jak se projevily feministické myšlenky ve starých a nových médiích, jak společnost Marvel pracuje s transmediálním storytellingem a jak se přizpůsobuje jeho publiku a aktuálním trendům. Cílem zkoumání bakalářské práce je zachytit vývoj reprezentace ženských postav v populárních komiksech a jejich proměnu v TV seriálech vesmíru The Defenders od společnosti Marvel.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis is dedicated to the analysis of the representation of the main and supporting female characters in the popular comics and tv-shows of Marvel's transmedia universe The Defenders. In the first chapter, we explain the key definitions, analyze the changes in the super-heroine representation in the popular comics of Marvel and DC during the second and third feminist waves, compare them in the periods from the 1940s to the present and also the influence of transmedia storytelling on comics narrative. The second part focuses on the tv-shows of Marvel's universe The Defenders to show the representation of the main and supporting female characters in them: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. On the selected material, the work wants to indicate how feminist ideas have penetrated old and new media content, how Marvel works with transmedia storytelling and how it adapts to its audience and current trends. The bachelor's thesis aims to capture the development of the representation of female characters in popular comics and their transformation in the tv-shows of Marvel's universe The Defenders.
