Professional competences of general nurses

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem výzkumu bylo zhodnotit kompetence všeobecných sester ve vybraném zdravotnickém zařízení. Dále zjistit rozdíl v ošetřovatelských kompetencích podle pracoviště, délky praxe, dosaženého vzdělání a zmapovat, zda si sestry přály vykonávat samostatně činnosti, spojené s odborným dohledem a s indikací lékaře. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 101 respondentů, šetření probíhalo od března do září 2020. Pro sběr dat byl použit standardizovaný hodnotící nástroj Nurse Professional Competence (NPC) Scale, který byl doplněn o sociodemografické údaje. Výsledky: Všeobecné sestry hodnotily komplexně své kompetence ve velké míře. Byl zjištěn staticky významný rozdíl v pěti kategoriích ošetřovatelských kompetencí, vyšší úroveň dosáhly sestry pracující na standardních odděleních. Sebehodnocení ošetřovatelských kompetencí ovlivňoval vyšší stupeň vzdělání, přičemž délka praxe nehrála významnou roli. V souvislosti s přáním vykonávat činnosti samostatně, které jsou prozatím spojeny s odborným dohledem a s indikací lékaře, byla prokázána souvislost u třech činností podle typu pracoviště. Délka praxe poukázala na rozdíl, který se promítl v nesouhlasu při výkonu dvou činností samostatně, tedy s delší praxí vykazovaly sestry nesouhlas. V oblasti vztahů mezi vzděláním a výkonem činností samostatně jsme zjistili závislost o střední intenzitě u dvou činností. Závěr: Sebehodnocení ošetřovatelských kompetencí sester poukázalo na pozitivní skóre, ale také detekovalo nedostatkové oblasti. Identifikace různých nedostatků společně s výsledky činností, které si všeobecné sestry přály vykonávat samostatně a bez indikace lékaře, mohou vést k zacílení vzdělávání sester a zkvalitnění péče.

Abstract:

Aim: The aim of the research was to evaluate the competences of general nurses in the selected medical facility. Furthermore, to determine the difference in nursing competences by workplace, duration of practice, educational attainment and to map whether nurses wished to carry out independent activities related to professional supervision and doctor's indication. Methods: The research group consisted of 101 respondents, the survey was conducted from March to September 2020. The standardized Nurse Professional Competence (NPC) Scale evaluation tool was used for data collection, which was supplemented by sociodemographic data. Results: The general nurses assessed their competencies comprehensively to a hight degree. A statically significant difference was found in five categories of nursing competences, with nurses working in standard wards achieving a higher level. The self-assessment of nursing competences was influenced by a higher level of education, while the length of practice did not play a significant role. In connection with the desire to carry out activities independently, which for the time being are linked to professional supervision and to the indication of a doctor, a link has been established in three activities according to the type of workplace. The length of the practice pointed to a difference which was reflected in the disapproval in the performance of two activities separately, i.e. with longer practice the nurses showed disapproval. In the area of relations between education and the performance of activities separately, we found dependence on moderate intensity in two activities. Conclusion: The self-evaluation of nurses' nursing competencies pointed to a positive score, but also detected scarce areas. Identification of various deficiencies, together with the results of activities that general nurses wished to carry out independently and without the indication of a doctor, can lead to the targeting of nurses' education and the quality of care.
