Project management product design for freelance professionals

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá návrhem produktu na správu zakázek pro nezávislé profesionály na volné noze. Autor je designér na volné noze a dlouhodobě využíval tabulky na správu zakázek jako mnoho jeho kolegů. Cílem práce bylo navrhnout nástroj, který by nahradil tabulky a pomohl spravovat zakázky efektivněji. V průběhu výzkumu bylo zjištěno, že na trhu opravdu chybí nástroj, který by se zaměřoval na jednotlivce. Pomocí dotazníkového šetření a několika rozhovorů s cílovou skupinou se podařilo zjistit, že nejdůležitější informace, kterou potřebují nezávislí profesionálové u zakázek sledovat, je, zda je zakázka pro ně výdělečná. Zda je zakázka pro nezávislého profesionála výdělečná, lze zjistit porovnáním reálné hodinové odměny s náklady nezávislého profesionála u na hodinu práce. K určení reálné hodinové odměny je nutné zjistit, kolik bylo na projektu stráveno času. Klasické nástroje na měření času mají nevýhodou v tom, že je uživatel musí zapnout, což jak ukázaly rozhovory s nezávislými profesionály, je často problém. Avšak existují i nástroje, které sledují aktivitu na počítači pro následnou analýzu produktivity. Z těchto nástrojů autor vycházel při návrhu produktu. Pomocí procesu Double Diamond byl navržen produkt, který se skládá ze dvou částí. První část produktu je aplikace, která běží na pozadí počítače a sleduje aktivní okna. Aktivní okna v počítači mění název podle činnosti, záložek a obsahu, který si v nich uživatel zobrazil. Analýzou klíčových slov v názvu aktivních oken je možné přiřadit klíčová slova k jednotlivým projektům. Informace o čase stráveném v jednotlivých aplikacích je výchozí podklad pro určení množství času stráveného v jednotlivých projektech. Druhá část produktu je webové rozhraní, kde může uživatel sledovat profitabilitu u jednotlivých projektů. Po zjištění času stráveného na projektu a celkové odměny je možné určit reálnou hodinovou odměnu. To je klíčová informace, kterou nezávislý profesionál potřebuje znát.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the design of a project management product for freelancers. The author is a freelance designer and has long used order management spreadsheets as have many of his colleagues. The goal of the thesis was to design a tool that would replace spreadsheets and help manage contracts more efficiently. During the course of the research, it was discovered that there was a real lack of a tool on the market that focused on the individual freelancers. Through a questionnaire survey and several focus group interviews, it was found that the most important information that freelancers need to track for contracts is whether the contract is profitable for them. Whether a job is profitable for a freelancer can be determined by comparing the real hourly fee with the freelancer's cost per hour of work. To determine the real hourly fee, it is necessary to find out how much time was spent on the project. Traditional time-tracking tools have the disadvantage that the user has to turn them on, which, as interviews with freelancers have shown, is often a problem. However, there are also tools that track activity on the computer for subsequent productivity analysis. The author based the product design on these tools. Product was designed using the Double diamond process. Product consists of 2 parts. The first part of the product is an application that runs in the background of the computer and tracks active windows. The active windows on the computer change their name according to the activity, bookmarks and content that the user has viewed in them. By analyzing keywords in the name of the active windows, it is possible to assign keywords to individual projects. The information about the time spent in each application is the initial basis for determining the amount of time spent in each project. The second part of the product is a web interface where the user can monitor the profitability of each project. Once the time spent on a project is determined, using the total remuneration, it is possible to determine the real hourly remuneration. This is the key information a freelancer needs to know.
