Translations of the French Prose in the Revue Světová literatura in 1956–1970

Abstract:

The diploma thesis „Translations of the French prose in the revue Světová literatura (World literature) in 1956–1970“ has two parts: descriptive and interpretative. The descriptive part consists of a table of translations from French to Czech published in the revue Světová literatura in the period 1956–1972, of a list of translators and editors in the period 1956–1972, and of profiles of the most significant translators, who published their translations from French in 1956–1972. In the interpretative part the author focused on translations of the French prose published in the SL revue in the 1960s, which includes writers of the „Nouveau Roman“ (Robbe-Grillet, Butor, Sarraute, Simon, Duras etc.) as well as writers connected with Existentialism (Camus, Sartre, Beauvoir). The author tries to find out what kind of texts the Czech translators tend to choose and why. On the basis of this selection process and the interpretation of the Czech translators and editors commentaries, the author poses a question on possibilities and quality of reception of French literature in Czechoslovakia under the conditions of the communist regime.

Abstract:

Diplomovou práci „Translations of the French prose in the revue Světová literatura in 1956–1970” tvoří dvě části: popisná a interpretační. V popisné části jsou: tabulka překladů z francouzštiny do češtiny, publikovaných v časopise Světová literatura v letech 1956–1972, soupis překladatelů a redakcí v letech 1956–1972 a portréty nejvýznamnějších překladatelů, kteří publikovali své překlady z francouzštiny v letech 1956–1972. V interpretační části se autorka zaměřila na překlady z francouzské prózy, publikované v SL zejména v 60. letech, jedná se o autory „Nouveau roman“ (Robbe-Grillet, Butor, Sarraute, Simon, Duras a další), dále o autory spojené s Existencialismem (Camus, Sartre, Beauvoir). Autorka si klade otázku jaké texty si čeští překladatelé vybírají a proč. Na základě interpretace výběru překládaných textů, a zejména interpretace komentářů českých překladatelů a redaktorů Světové literatury, si autorka klade otázku o možnostech a kvalitě recepce francouzské literatury v Československu v podmínkách komunismu.
