Attitudes of social work students from selected university to dying and death

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá postoji studentů sociální práce vybrané vysoké školy k umírání a smrti. Autorka hledá odpověď na hlavní výzkumnou otázku: Jaké postoje zaujímají studenti sociální práce vybrané vysoké školy k umírání a smrti? V teoretické části jsou vymezené základní pojmy práce, konkrétně témata umírání a smrt, postoje a studenti sociální práce. Prostor je věnován také vzdělávání v oblasti thanatologie a charakteristice vzdělávání v oboru sociální práce na vybrané vysoké škole. Za pomoci kvalitativní výzkumné strategie byly provedeny polostrukturované rozhovory s vybranými studenty. Pro zodpovězení hlavní výzkumné otázky byly zvoleny tři dílčí otázky, zaměřené na kognitivní, emotivní a konativní složku postojů. Výzkum přinesl zjištění o pohledu respondentek na téma umírání nejen v jejich osobním, ale také profesním životě. Respondentky by uvítaly možnost rozšíření svého vzdělávání v oblasti thanatologie. Na základě všech zjištění autorka přináší seznam doporučení pro praxi, která by mohla sloužit jako inspirace pro vzdělavatele v oblasti sociální práce.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with attitudes of social work students from selected university to dying and death. The author has been searching for response for the elementary research question: What attitudes do the social work students from the selected university adopt towards dying and death? The theoretical section defines elementary terms of the thesis, i.e. the issues of dying and death, attitudes and social work students. It has been also devoted to education in thanatology and to characteristics of education in the social work program at the selected university. Qualitative research practice was used to take semi-structured interviews with the selected students. Three partial questions were chosen to answer the elementary research question; those questions were focused on cognitive, emotional and conative elements of attitudes. The research has brought findings of respondents’ points of view of dying not just in their personal lives, but also in their professional lives. The respondents would appreciate extension of their education in thanatology. Based on the revealed findings, the author brings some recommendation for practice which might inspire the social work tutors.
