Abstract:

Bakalářská práce „Sociální podmínky Africko-Amerických otroků v jižních státech Spojených států Amerických před občanskou válkou“ mapuje původ a význam otroctví a otrokářství se zaměřením na sociální situaci Afrických otroků v jižních státech Spojených států amerických. Spojené státy americké a původní Americké kolonie se velkou mírou zapojily do obchodu s otroky v 16. – 19. století. Postupně se staly největším “odběratelem“ Afrických otroků. Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá obdobím, které ovlivnilo rozvoj Spojených států amerických, od počátku obchodu s otroky, přes největší rozmach otrokářství až do doby občanské války., která prakticky umožnila zrušení otroctví v U.S.A. První kapitola stručně shrnuje historii otroctví ve světových dějinách, se záměrem poukázat na fakt, že otroctví bylo známé již dávno před začátkem obchodu s Africkými otroky. Druhá kapitola se soustředí na počátek obchodu s Africkými otroky a jejich postupným transportem do Nového světa. Tato kapitola se také zabývá obecnými premisami, které ospravedlňovaly zotročení Afrického obyvatelstva. Třetí kapitola se zaměřuje na více částí života afrického otroka v jižních otrokářských státech U.S.A., od přeměny z volného Afričana na amerického otroka, přes rodinný život otroků až po způsoby vyrovnávání se s těžkou sociální situací. V této kapitole jsou také zmíněny teorie a názory, bránící otrokářství proti kritice jeho odpůrců. Čtvrtá kapitola zkoumá záznamy o počátcích otroctví v církevních pramenech a zaměřuje se také na postoj anglikánské a římskokatolické církve k instituci otrokářství. Pátá kapitola se zabývá situací b jižní části Spojených států před blížící se občanskou válkou a také studuje aktivity organizace Podzemní Železnice.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis “Social Conditions of African- American Slaves in the Southern States of United States of America before the Civil war “charts the origins and importance of slavery, aiming at the social situation of African slaves in the southern states of the United States of America. The United States of America and the original American colonies took a serious part in the slave trade between 16th and 19th century. They gradually became the greatest “customer” of the African slaves. This bachelor thesis deals with the time period that influenced the development of the United States, from the beginning of the slave trade, through the greatest expansion of slavery up to the time of the civil war that practically enabled the abolition of slavery in the States. The first chapter briefly summarises the history of slavery in the world history, with the intention to note the fact, that the institution of slavery was known long before the start of the trade with African slaves. The second chapter focuses on the beginning of the slave trade with the African slaves and their gradual transport into America. This chapter also includes some of the premises that justified the enslavement of African people. The third chapter targets the on several parts of life of an African slave in the proslavery states of U.S.A., from the transformation from free African into an American slave, through the family life of the slaves up to the ways of the slaves’ ways of facing up their uneasy social situation. This chapter also includes some of the theories and ideas defending slavery against its opponents. The fourth chapter examines the origins of slavery in the religious texts and also focuses on the attitude of the Anglican Church and Roman Catholic Church towards the institution of slavery. The fifth chapter deals with the situation in the south of United States close before the start of the civil war and studies also the activities of the Underground Railroad organisation.
