"Live to ride - ride to live" - Analysis of the biker subculture

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá analýzou subkultury motorkářů. Mým cílem i cílem tohoto díla je poskytnout čtenáři možnost seznámit se s touto specifickou subkulturou, o níž není dosud mnoho dostupných a objektivních informací. V práci, v níž se snažím zodpovědět otázku, jaká jsou specifika a charakter motorkářské subkultury a motorkářského životního stylu z pohledu motorkáře, je detailně popsána problematika motorkářů, motorkářských klubů, vysvětleny jevy s tímto související a celý text je systematicky doplňován informacemi od samotných motorkářů, kteří se v dané subkultuře pohybují průměrně více než dvanáct let, získanými na základě fenomenologické studie tohoto fenoménu. První část práce se zabývá zejména obecným pojetí subkultury a charakteristikou jejího stylu, uvedením motorkářství do historického kontextu a vystižením důležitosti symbolů v motorkářském světě. Druhá část se již věnuje samotnému rozkrývání problematiky motorkářských klubů, které fungují jako sociální skupiny, jež mají přísnou hierarchii a pravidla a které jsou založeny na pevných a důvěrných vztazích mezi členy, na základě čehož je pak budována klubová identita a s tím související a pro motorkáře tolik typický koncept bratrství. Poslední kapitola je pak věnovaná kvalitativní fenomenologické interpretaci zkušeností motorkářů s klubem O. S.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the analysis of the biker subculture. The main objective of the work presented in this thesis is to provide the reader with an opportunity to learn about the specific subculture on which there is not still an of available and objective information. I try to answer the question, what are the specifics and the nature of the biker subculture and the biker lifestyle from their perspective. The problem of the bikers, biker clubs are thoroughly described, all relevant issues are explained and the whole text is systematically supplied with information from the bikers that have been members of the subculture for more than twelve years. Findings are based on the phenomenological study of this phenomenon. The first part of the thesis deals particularly with the general concept of subculture and characteristic of its style, placing motorbiking in historical context and the importance of symbols in the biker world. The second section reveals the issue of biker clubs that form social groups with strict hierarchy and rules. They based on strong and close relations among members through which club identity and a typical concept of brotherhood are built upon. The last chapter is dedicated to a qualitative phenomenological interpretation of experience of the bikers with the club O.S.
