The Use of Inversion and Inverted Constructions in English in Written Works of B1 level EFL Students

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá anglickou gramatickou inverzí a inverzními syntaktickými strukturami. V práci jsou popsány možnosti a frekvence využití daných syntaktických struktur a jejich využití v žurnalistickém stylu. Teoretická část práce vymezuje základní druhy gramatické inverze, inverzi úplnou a inverzi částečnou, a její další příbuzné jevy. Praktická část zkoumá pomocí korpusové analýzy písemné práce žáků na úrovni B1 v textech tvořených jako novinový článek. Cílem práce je porovnat výskyt a četnost gramatické inverze před a po výukové prezentaci daného gramatického jevu.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is devoted to the English inversion and inverted constructions in journalistic style. The work describes the possibilities and frequencies of using these syntactical structures. The theoretical part of this thesis deals with basic types of inversion, subject-verb inversion and subject-operator inversion, and other similar patterns. The practical part of the work aims to examine the written work of B1 students in the texts created as a newspaper article before and after the presentation of the syntactic inversion with corpus analysis. It also determines the frequency of occurrence in students´ works.
