Analysis of Trends in the World and Czech Insurance Industry

Abstract:

Obsahem diplomové práce je analýza trendů světového a českého pojišťovnictví. Popisuji strukturu světového pojistného trhu včetně grafického znázornění některých základních ukazatelů tohoto trhu v roce 2007. Analyzuji vývoj pojištěnosti na světových trzích včetně vývoje v EU a ČR v roce 2007 a v období let 1998-2007. Porovnávám ukazatele roku 2007 s průměrem předchozího desetiletí, tj. s obdobím let 1997-2006. Analýza je vypracována v členění na průmyslové země a vznikající trhy s dalším členěním na životní pojištění a neživotní pojištění. Analyzuji hlavní trendy, které se na světovém pojistném trhu v poslední době prosazují: rozvoj bankopojištění, rostoucí význam životního pojištění a soukromého zdravotního pojištění, nepříznivý vývoj v oblasti škod z přírodních katastrof, nové přístupy při prodeji pojistných produktů aj. Popisuji některé pojistné produkty v návaznosti na problematiku škod z přírodních katastrof (např. zemědělské pojištění). Zmiňuji se o změnách v přístupu k regulaci pojišťovnictví a k integraci dozoru nad finančními trhy. Zabývám se hypoteční krizí v USA a jejímu celosvětovému dopadu na finanční sektor. Analyzuji příčiny vzniku hypoteční krize a podíl americké pojišťovny AIG na jejím vzniku. Popisuji přístupy k řešení vzniklé finanční krize.

Abstract:

The subject of my diploma thesis is the analysis of trends in the global as well as Czech insurance business. I describe the structure of the global insurance market including the graphical representation of several basic indicators of this market in 2007. I analyse the development of insurance in global markets including the development in the European Union and the Czech Republic in 2007 as well as in the period from 1998 to 2007. I compare the 2007 indicators with the average of the previous decade, i.e. with the period from to 1997 to 2006. The analysis takes into account the division between industrial countries and emerging markets, with further segmentation into life insurance and non-life insurance. I analyse the major trends which have been asserting themselves lately in the global insurance market: such as the development of bank-insurance, the growing importance of life insurance and personal health care insurance, the unfavourable development in solving damage from natural disasters, new approaches to selling insurance products, etc. I present a few insurance products in line with the issue of damage from natural disasters (e.g. agricultural insurance). I mention the changing approach to the regulation of the insurance business and to the integration of financial market supervision. I deal with the mortgage crisis in the USA and its global impact on the finance sector. I analyse the root cause of the origin of the mortgage crisis and the share of the American insurance company AIG in its initiation. I describe the attitudes to solving the ensuing financial crisis.
