Comparing Classical and Bayesian Approaches to Hypothesis Testing

Abstract:

V této bakalářské práci se věnujeme testování statistických hypotéz klasickým a bayesovským způsobem. Nejdříve je čtenář seznámen se základními pojmy a principy testování hypotéz oběma těmito způsoby. Následně jsou shrnuty jejich základní rozdíly a podobnosti a přístupy jsou rovněž porovnány z hlediska jejich výhod a nevýhod. Teoretické postupy testování statistických hypotéz oběma těmito přístupy jsou na závěr předvedeny na příkladech. Pro jejich výpočty byl v případě klasického přístupu zvolen ekonometrický software Gretl a v případě bayesovského přístupu Matlab.

Abstract:

In this thesis we study testing of statistical hypotheses in a classical and Bayesian way. At first, the reader is familiarized with the basic concepts and principles of hypotheses testing of both ways. Then, the basic differences and similarities are summarized, the approaches are also compared in terms of their advantages and disadvantages. In conclusion, theoretical methods of statistical hypotheses testing using these two approaches are demonstrated on examples. For their calculations, in the case of the classical approach, econometric software Gretl was chosen and in case of the Bayesian approach Matlab was used.
