Analysis of the business environment in selected post-communist countries

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá analýzou podnikatelského prostředí a faktorů, které mohou ovlivnit výši podnikatelské aktivity na národní úrovni. Cílem této diplomové práce je zanalyzovat faktory, které přispívají či braní rozvoji podnikání na příkladu vybraných třinácti postkomunistických zemí. Na základě zahraničních výzkumů je v této práci zdůrazněn vliv podnikatelské aktivity na rozvoji bohatství země a jsou identifikovány důležité faktory determinující podnikatelské prostředí. Zvláštní pozornost je pak věnována vlivu socialistického režimu na přechod z centrálně plánované ekonomiky k tržní. Empirická část diplomové práce pak vychází z datového souboru pro třináct postkomunistických zemí za období od roku 2000 do roku 2017. Vztahy mezi proměnnými jsou testovány prostřednictvím regresní analýzy. Podle výsledků modelu se podařilo prokázat existenci souvislosti mezi administrativními bariérami pro založení podnikání, korupcí, vládní byrokracií a mírou podnikatelské aktivity. Hlavním přínosem této práce je možnost využití výsledků pro analýzu účinnosti právních předpisů v oblasti podnikání a doplnění informační základny pro tvorbu podpůrného podnikatelského prostředí.

Abstract:

This thesis is devoted to the analysis of the business environment and factors that may influence national level of entrepreneurial activity. The purpose of this thesis is to analyse the important conditions that contribute or prevent the development of entrepreneurship in the selected thirteen post-communist economies. In the light of the literature, we highlight the contribution of entrepreneurial activity to the development of the country's welfare as well as the importance of factors shaping the business environment. Particular attention is paid to the impact of the socialist regime and the subsequent stage of the transition from planned to market economy. The empirical part of the master thesis is based on dataset of the thirteen post-communist countries for the period from 2000 to 2017. Relationships among variables are tested through multivariate regression analysis. The results supported a relationship between administrative barriers to start-up, corruption, government´s bureaucracy and the level of entrepreneurial activity. The main contribution of this work is the opportunity to use the results to analyse the effectiveness of business-related legislation and the replenishment of the informational base which can be used to create a supportive business environment.
