Conception of literary characters and space in Paulo Coelho's works: Veronika Decide Morrer, O Alquimista e O Diário de Um Mago.

Abstract:

The aim of this master's thesis is to analyse the conception of literary characters and space in Paulo Coelho's work. In our research we will focus on his three chosen works Veronika Decide to Die, The Alchemist and The Pilgrimage and analyse how the author works with the conception of characters and space in his books. We'll start with an analysis of literary characters in general. This will be followed by an analysis of the characters in the chosen works. We will then focus on the analysis of literary space in general and then research space in the author's three works. In conclusion, we will summarize the information that will help us clarify how Paulo Coelho approaches the issue of literary characters and space in his works.

Abstract:

A intenção desta tese de mestrado, é analisar a conceção de personagens literárias e do espaço na obra de Paulo Coelho. Na nossa pesquisa focalizar-nos-emos em três obras esco-lhidas deste escritor Veronika Decide Morrer, O Alquimista e O Diário de Um Mago e ana-lisaremos como o autor nos seus livros trabalha com a conceção das personagens e do espa-ço. Começaremos com a análise de personagens literárias em geral. Seguir-se-á a análise das personagens das obras escolhidas. Depois, concentrar-nos-emos geralmente na análise do espaço literário e em seguida pesquisaremos o espaço nas três obras do autor. Em conclusão sumarizemos as informações que nos ajudarão a clarificar a forma como Paulo Coelho aborda a questão das personagens literárias e do espaço nas suas obras.
