Risk Assessment of Falls in Hospitalized Children

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem diplomové práce bylo zjistit výskyt rizika pádů u hospitalizovaných dětí ve vybraných zdravotnických zařízeních Moravskoslezského kraje. Metodika: Výzkumné šetření bylo provedeno metodou kvantitativního výzkumu. Pro průzkum používání hodnotících škál rizika pádů u hospitalizovaných dětí bylo osloveno 10 dětských oddělení v Moravskoslezském kraji. V dalším průběhu výzkumu bylo provedeno hodnocení rizika pádů u hospitalizovaných dětí ve vybraných zařízeních Moravskoslezského kraje pomocí dvou hodnotících testů určených k hodnocení rizika pádů u dětí. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 201 dětí hospitalizovaných na dětských odděleních ve dvou vybraných zařízeních Moravskoslezského kraje. Výsledky: Z průzkumu používání hodnotících škál pro riziko pádů u hospitalizovaných dětí vyplývá, že jen 20 % oslovených zdravotnických zařízení používá k hodnocení rizika pádů u dětí hodnotící škálu určenou pro dětský věk. Při hodnocení rizika pádů u hospitalizovaných dětí vybranými hodnotícími nástroji nebyl zjištěn statisticky významný rozdíl ve výskytu rizika pádů u hospitalizovaných dětí mezi vybranými zdravotnickými zařízeními. Mezi zvolenými hodnotícími nástroji byla naopak zjištěna statisticky významná asymetrie. Riziko pádů u dětí také ovlivňuje věk, pohlaví, přítomnost rodiče, handicap, přítomnost operačního zákroku a oddělení, na kterém jsou děti hospitalizovány. Závěr: Zdokumentování rizika pádů a následné preventivní intervence mají význam nejen pro bezpečnost pacienta a zvýšení kvality péče, ale i pro akreditační proces zdravotnických zařízení a případné právní spory. Na pediatrických odděleních zdravotnických zařízení je žádoucí používání hodnotících nástrojů, které jsou určeny pro dětský věk a zohledňují odlišnosti dětského věku.

Abstract:

Objective: The objective of this thesis was to determine the occurrence of falls of children hospitalised at selected medical facilities in the Moravia-Silesia Region. Methodology: The research investigation was conducted using the quantitative research method. To conduct a survey of the assessment scales used to assess the risk of falls of hospitalised children, 10 paediatric sections in the Moravia-Silesia Region were approached. In the follow-up survey, assessed was the risk of falls of children hospitalised in selected facilities in the Moravia-Silesia Region by means of two assessment tests designed to determine the risk of falls of children. The research set comprised 201 children hospitalised in paediatric sections of two selected facilities in the Moravia-Silesia Region. Results: The survey of the assessment scales used to determine the risk of falls of hospitalised children showed that only 20 % of the medical facilities surveyed used to assess the risk of falls in children the assessment scale intended for children. When assessing the risk of falls of hospitalised children using the selected assessment tools, no statistically significant difference was found in the occurrence of the risk of falls of hospitalised children between the selected medical facilities. However, a statistically significant asymmetry was found between the selected assessment tools. The risk of falls in children is also influenced by the child's age, sex, presence of a parent, handicap, surgical intervention and the section at which the children are hospitalised. Conclusion: Documenting the risk of falls and the follow-up preventative intervention is important not only for the patient's safety and enhancement of the care quality, but also for the accreditation process of medical facilities and potential litigations. It is desirable for paediatric sections of medical facilities to use assessment tools which are intended for children and which take into account specific aspects of the children' ages.
