Workers' colonies in Brno

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce zkoumá dělnické nouzové kolonie ve městě Brně, které vznikaly nelegálně bez povolení v 1. polovině 20. století v době bytové krize a vysoké nezaměstnanosti. Práce popisuje zaniklé i dochované dělnické kolonie a aktuální podobu lokalit. Cílem práce je charakterizovat současné obyvatele a jejich postoje k životu v brněnských dělnických koloniích Divišova čtvrť, Písečník a Zarybec. Práce vychází z předpokladu, že se obyvatelstvo ve studovaných lokalitách obměnilo a dělníci zde již nežijí v takovém počtu, jak tomu bylo v minulém století. Provedené dotazníkové šetření ukázalo, že v koloniích je v současnosti zřejmá gentrifikace. Dále byla dotazníkovým šetřením zjištěna pozitiva a negativa života ve studovaných lokalitách. Jako positivum respondenti uváděli především klidné prostředí a blízkost přírody i města. Negativem kolonií viděli chybějící občanskou vybavenost a nedostatečnou pozornost ze strany úřadů.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis identifies workers’ colonies in the city of Brno. These colonies (settlements) were created during the first half of 20th century because of high rates of unemployment and a housing crisis. The thesis also describes extinct and surviving workers’ colonies in their current form. The main aim of the thesis is to characterize the current residents and the attitude to living in the following settlements: Divišova čtvrť, Písečník and Zarybec. The thesis works on the assumption that residents in these settlements do not live there in such large numbers as in the past century. Based on the results of a questionnaire survey it can be concluded that nowadays an obvious process of gentrification has taken place in the above mentioned settlements. The results also demonstrate the negative and positive aspects of life there. The tranquil place, close to nature and the city center at the same time, are mostly considered to be positive factors. The negative aspects of colonies are the lack of public amenities and insufficient attention from the local authority.
