Communications of support worker with seniors in residential facilities

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce je zaměřena na problematiku komunikace se seniory žijícími v domovech pro seniory. V péči o klienty si personál často nevystačí s běžnými dorozumívajícími způsoby. Je proto důležité, aby se naučil profesionálně komunikovat. Práce je rozdělena na část teoretickou a aplikační. V teoretické části práce jsou na základě poznatků z odborné literatury vymezeny pojmy jako verbální a neverbální forma komunikace, vedení sociální komunikace, komunikační dovednosti, ale i bariéry a nejčastější chyby v komunikaci se seniory. Obsahuje vysvětlení pojmů: stáří, demence, komunikátor, komunikant, zpětná vazba a sociální pracovník. Dále se zabývá problematikou komunikace se seniory se zdravotním postižením, faktory ovlivňujícími komunikaci a uplatněním emoční inteligence při péči o seniory. Cílem aplikační části mé práce je poukázat na nedostatečnost stávající metodiky používané doposud při nástupu klienta, navrhnout změny v postupu sociálního šetření a vytvořit nový obsah přijímacího rozhovoru.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on communication with senior citizens living in old people´s home. In care of clients the staff often does not cope with the common ways of communication. It is necessary to teach the staff to communicate professionally. This thesis is divided into the theoretical and the application part. The theoretical part defines terms such as verbal and nonverbal communication, social work management and communication skills. There are also mentioned the most common mistakes and obstacles to effective communication with seniors. This part deals with explanation of following terms: old age, dementia, communicator, recipient, feedback and social worker. Moreover, it deals with disabled seniors´ communication, factors influencing communication and use of emotional intelligence in care of old people. The aim of the application part is to point out insufficiency of present methodology used when joining the old people´s home, to suggest changes in procedure of social survey and to create a new content of entrance interview.
