Reality Surfing: Searching For Soul Of Things

Abstract:

V této magisterské práci představuji motivy a strategie pro přehodnocení přístupu k materialitě věcí a odhalení rozmanitosti narativů, které se za nimi skrývají. Materiál zde vnímám jako plnohodnotného partnera pro spolupráci na scénickém díle jak ze scénografického, tak i dramaturgického hlediska. V každé kapitole vymezuji určitý kontextuální rámec pro způsoby práce s performativitou a kreativními kapacitami materiálu - z hlediska jeho smyslových kvalit, z hlediska jeho funkcí a z hlediska vztahů s jinými aktéry (lidskými a nelidskými). Což provádím skrze reflexi metod z vlastní umělecké praxe (zejména v rámci spolupráci s kolektivem PYL) a aplikování myšlenek z oblastí současné teorie (filozofie, studií materiální kultury, mediálních studií).

Abstract:

In this master's thesis, I present motifs and strategies for rethinking the approach to the materiality of things and revealing the multiplicity of narratives behind them. I consider the material as a fully-fledged partner for collaboration within the process of theatre performance creation, both from a scenographic and a dramaturgical perspective. In each chapter, I delineate a specific contextual framework for working with the performativity and creative capacities of the material—considering its sensory qualities, its functions, and its relationships with other actors (both human and non-human). I accomplish this through the reflection of methods derived from my own artistic practice (specifically in collaboration with the PYL collective) and by applying ideas from the domains of contemporary theory (philosophy, material culture studies, media studies, etc.).
