Artistic interpretation and understanding of space in prosaic works of Arnošt Lustig

Abstract:

Disertační práce se zabývá uměleckým ztvárněním a chápáním prostoru v pózách Arnošta Lustiga. Podstatnou roli hraje prostor příbytků, jenž je nejenom útočištěm pro postavy, ale také představuje místo snění a vzpomínání na dobu před druhou světovou válkou. Židé zásluhou někoho jiného ztratili rodný dům, čímž ztratili pocit bezpečí. Postupně se snaží najít svou existenci v novém prostoru, kde obvykle zažívají pocity úzkosti, ale také strachu z toho, co se následný den stane. V každém příbytku se nacházejí věci, jež se podílejí na celkovém charakteru prostoru. Zaměříme se rovněž na jiné prostory než je ghetto a vyhlazovací tábor. Vybrali jsme díla, v nichž je prostor vystaven na dichotomii domov a cizina, domácí a cizí. Dalším důvodem k výběru těchto tří próz byla otázka emigrace. Jedná se hlavně o Krásné zelené oči, Tma a světlo světa (Můj známý Vili Feld), Oleandrové keře. Součástí disertační práce je také analýza a popis tělesnosti postav ve vztahu k prostoru.

Abstract:

PhD thesis Umělecké ztvárnění a chápání prostoru v prózách Arnošta Lustiga [?Artistic interpretation and understanding in space in prosaic works of Arnošt Lustig?] focuses on the space in prosaic works of Arnošt Lustig. The significant role have space of attic room, which for the characters made not only a vision of refuge from the outside world, but presented also a place of dreaming and remembering the times before World War II. Since somebody else?s intervention they lost their birthplace, the background, and have lost a sense of security. It is coming to finding existence in a new space, where usually they experience feelings of anxiety, but also fear of what will happen in the coming days. The parts of each space are things which are also involved in overall nature of the space and on the what measure this object are entered to the awareness of the characters which will use the things not only for their own need. The PhD thesis is to point out the fact that there are also other areas than the ghetto and extermination camp. We have chosen works in which portrayed space at the level of scenery is based on the dichotomy home (country) ? abroad (foreign country), domestic ? strange, specifically we will discuss works Krásné zelené oči, Tma a světlo světa (Můj známý Vili Feld), Oleandrové keře ? i.e. Beautiful Green Eyes, Darkness and Light of the World (My Friend Vili Feld) Oleander Bushes. Another reason was that in all three works we meet with the theme of emigration. The PhD thesis will also analyze and describe the physicality in relation to space.
