Presentation of social roles and social identity of character Lisa in the television series The Simpsons (narrative analysis of conflict situations)

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá tématem prezentace sociálních rolí a sociální identity postavy Lízy z televizního seriálu Simpsonovi. Cílem práce je zjištění, jak jsou tyto role a identita konstruovány v konfliktních situacích. Postup narativní analýzy byl uplatněn na pět vybraných dílů seriálu. Práce se mimo jiné zabývá popularitou seriálu a jeho standardizovanou podobou, která je definována dle opakujících se herních sekvencí. V první části vymezuje teoretické koncepty sitcomu, adolescence, sociálních rolí, identity a konfliktu. Druhá část se zabývá metodologií narativní analýzy a poslední část je analýzou a interpretací narace výzkumného vzorku. Struktura narace vybraných dílů sitcomu Simpsonovi má standardizovanou podobu a konflikty v ní probíhající jsou výrazným dynamickým prvkem celého příběhu. V závěrečné části jsou právě tyto poznatky aplikovány na teoretická východiska prezentovaná v první části.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on presentation of social roles and social identity of character Lisa in the television series The Simpsons. The aim of this work is to determine how these roles and identity are constructed in conflict situations. The narrative analysis is applied to five selected episodes. The thesis also deals with the popularity of the series and its standardized form, which is defined by repetitive sequence of situations. The first part defines the theoretical concepts of sitcom, adolescence, social roles, identity and conflict. The second part deals with the methodology of narrative analysis and the last part is the analysis and interpretation of narrative research sample. The structure of the narration of selected parts of the sitcom The Simpsons is standardized and the ongoing conflicts are the dynamic elements of the story. In the last part these findings are applied to the theoretical background presented in the first part.
