Testamentary procedure in North Bohemia at the turn of the 17th and 18th century on the example of the royal cities Most and Ústí nad Labem

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce se zaměřuje na rozbor testamentů ze dvou městských knih, uložených v archivech Most a Ústí nad Labem. Práce se zaměřuje na rozbor vnější podoby a vnitřního obsahu testamentů. Srovnáním obou pramenů se pokouší přiblížit fungování městské kanceláře v královských městech v době po třicetileté válce do poloviny 18. století. Pozornost je věnována tomu, jak se testamentární praxe v obou městech vyvíjela a proměňovala a také tomu, jak mohou testamenty vypovídat o sociální struktuře obyvatel královských měst, jejich zbožnosti či vnímání smrti, nebo o vybavení měšťanské domácnosti. Kromě komparace obou pramenů diplomová práce obsahuje také mikrohistorickou sondu o životě Veronicy Krebsin von Meynova, jejíž uzdravení na přímluvu Jana Nepomuckého přispělo ke kanonizaci tohoto světce. Na závěr je připojena výběrová edice testamentu.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the analysis of last wills from two town books, stored in the archives of Most and Ústí nad Labem. The thesis focuses on the analysis of the external form and internal content of the last wills wills. By comparing the two sources, it attempts to approach the functioning of the legacy agenda in royal towns in the period after the Thirty Years' War until the mid-18th century. Attention is paid to how probate practice developed and changed in both cities, and how last wills can be indicative of the social structure of the inhabitants of the royal cities, their piety or perception of death, or the furnishings of a bourgeois household. In addition to a comparison of the two sources, the thesis also includes a microhistorical probe into the life of Veronica Krebsin von Meynova, whose healing through the intercession of John of Nepomuk contributed to the canonization of this saint. A selective edition of the Veronica's will is appended at the end.
