Role identification of the European Union in addressing global environmental issues: case study of the Paris Agreement

Abstract:

Problematika změny klimatu představuje jedno z nejaktuálnějších témat dlouhodobě diskutovaných na nejvyšší politické úrovni v globálním měřítku. Diplomová práce se snaží zhodnotit roli Evropské unie při utváření klimatického režimu přijetím Pařížské dohody. Vliv Evropské unie je dále analyzován při utváření implementačních procesů Pařížské dohody a udržováním stabilního vývoje klimatického režimu. Práce je koncipována jako případová studie, která se opírá o konceptuální rámec teorie rolí. Cílem práce je identifikovat proměny rolí Evropské unie v důsledku okolních vlivů či politického tlaku ze strany dalších globálních aktérů. Výsledky práce upozorňují na převládající roli Evropské unie v oblasti klimatické politiky Pařížské dohody a jejího vlivu při utváření budoucích kroků.

Abstract:

The issue of climate change is one of the most current topics discussed at the highest political level on a global scale. The thesis tries to evaluate the role of the European Union in shaping the climate regime by adopting the Paris Agreement. The influence of the European Union is further analyzed in shaping the implementation processes of the Paris Agreement and maintaining a stable development of the climate regime. The thesis is drafted as a case study, which is based on the conceptual framework of role theory. The aim of this thesis is to identify changes in the roles of the European Union due to surrounding influences or political pressure from other global actors. The results of the thesis highlight the predominant role of the European Union in the field of climate policy of the Paris Agreement and its influence in shaping future steps.
