Migration and reemigration from the Roma settlement to the United Kingdom.

Abstract:

Popsal a analyzoval jsem migraci a reemigraci obyvatel slovenské romské osady Letanovce do Velké Británie a zpět. Práce je rozdělena do dvou částí, teoretické a praktické. V té první popisuji základní migrační teorie, přičemž klíčové pro pochopení problematiky je pro mne teorie migračních sítí a koncept transnacionalismu. Dále promýšlím Bourdieovi pojmy symbolického násilí a symbolického kapitálu a skrze ně se pokouším migrační tendence uchopit. V části věnované metodologii popisuji jednak výběr informátorů, který probíhal metodou snowball, a dále pak způsob vedení výzkumu, pro který jsem zvolil formu zúčastněného pozorování. V praktické části věnuji kapitolu historii a současnosti romské osady Letanovce, popisuji původní osadu, následné dvojí stěhování a na konci zmiňuji migrační lokalitu Sheffield. V analýze migračních procesů docházím k tomu, že důležitým momentem vedoucím jak k migraci, tak k návratu zpět byla absence každodenního setkávání, ustanovování a znovu ustanovování statusů, tak jak je popisuje Bourdieu. V neposlední řadě se brexit stal faktorem, který plynulý transmigrační pohyb tam a zpět vychýlil a stal se dominantní veličinou přehlušující veškeré další migrační činitele.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe and analyze the migration and re-emigration of the inhabitants of the Slovak Roma settlement of Letanovce to Great Britain and back. The work is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. In the first one, I describe the basic theories of migration, and the key to understanding the issue for me is the theory of migration networks and the concept of transnationalism. I also reflect on Bourdieu's notions of symbolic violence and symbolic capital, and through them I present and explain migratory tendencies. In the section devoted to the methodology, I describe both the selection of individual sources, which took place using the snowball method, and then the method of conducting research, for which I chose the form of participatory observation. In the practical part I dedicate a chapter to the history and present of the Roma settlement of Letanovce, I describe the original settlement, the subsequent double migration, and at the end I discuss the migration locality of Sheffield. In the analysis of migration processes, I find that an important situation leading to both their migration and return was the absence of daily meetings, and the establishment and re-establishment of social statuses, as described by Bourdieu. Last but not least, Brexit became a contributing factor that disrupted the smooth trans-migration movement back and forth and became the dominant variable, overshadowing all other migration factors.
