Hypothesis testing for large samples

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá chování statistických testů hypotéz pro velmi velké výběry. Cílem této práce je zhodnocení chování a vlastností statistických testů hypotéz pro velmi velké výběry a přiblížit problémy vyplývající z těchto vlastností. Z teoretických úvah a simulovaných výsledků vyplynulo, že pro velmi velké výběry není vhodné využívat statistické testy hypotéz jako primární úsudkový nástroj. Na základě tohoto závěru byl představen pojem praktická významnost a zkoumány alternativní metody analýzy náhodných výběrů. Práce může sloužit jako pomocný nástroj při analýze datového souboru a jako příspěvek k výzkumu praktické významnosti.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis studies hypothesis testing for very large samples. The goal of this thesis is evaluation of behavior and attributes of hypothesis testing for very large samples, and closely look up at problems that arise with observed behavior. Based on theoretical background and hypothetical simulations, it was deducted that hypothesis testing isn’t suitable as a primary source for a very large sample analysis. Because of these discoveries the idea of practical significance and few alternatives for sample analysis were introduced. This thesis can be used as a helpful tool for a very large sample analysis and also as introductory text for the issue of practical signifiance.
