Cucurbituril derivatives containing propanediurea units

Abstract:

Tato disertační práce se věnuje přípravě supramolekulárních makrocyklických sloučenin zvaných cucurbiturily. Teoretická část práce shrnuje publikované informace o těchto sloučeninách a zaměřuje se na jejich deriváty složené z pěti glykolurilových jednotek, dále pak na možnosti self-asociace, tvorbu komplexů s kationty a zapojení do polymerních materiálů s pravidelnou vnitřní strukturou. Diskuse výsledků je rozdělena na čtyři části, které na sebe navazují a jejich společným prvkem je použití propandimočoviny jako alternativní stavební jednotky nahrazující v připravených strukturách glykoluril. První projekt stručně popisuje syntézu dimeru propandimočoviny ohraničeného aromatickými jádry a interakce tohoto dimeru s anionty. Druhá studie se věnuje přípravě derivátu CB[5] zcela složeného z propandimočovinových jednotek, takzvanému pressocucurbiturilu. Makrocyklus je ve vodě schopen vázat do své kavity malé molekuly plynů s vyšší afinitou, než glykolurilové analogy. Interakce s portály byla testována ve vodě na organických kationtech. Třetí projekt prezentuje molekulu složenou z jednoho glykolurilu a čtyř propandimočovin. Detailně se zaměřuje především na odhalení a popis self-asociace makrocyklu a také na jeho interakce s kationty, obojí v roztoku methanolu. Jedná se navíc o první derivát cucurbiturilů, který byl intenzivně studován v tomto rozpouštědle. Poslední část je věnována přípravě supramolekulárního polymeru složeného z derivátu pressocucurbiturilu a organického linkeru. Materiál se projevuje schopností sorbovat organické plynné látky i rozpuštěné soli organických kyselin z jejich roztoků. Supramolekulární podstata materiálu umožňuje vysoce robustní přípravu a úpravu stability podle zamýšleného použití.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the preparation of supramolecular macrocyclic compounds known as cucurbiturils. Theoretical part summarizes published information about these compounds. It is focused on derivatives composed of five glycoluril units. Further, the possibilities of self-association, cation binding and incorporation into polymeric materials with regular internal structure are mentioned. Discussion of results is divided into four parts that are linked and their common element is the use of propanediurea as an alternative building unit replacing glycoluril in the prepared strucures. The first project briefly describes the synthesis of the propanediurea dimer bordered by aromatic rings and its interaction with anions. The second study deals with the preparation of pressocucurbituril, the CB[5] derivative completely composed of propanediurea units. The macrocycle is able to bind small gas molecules into its cavity with higher affinity in water than glycoluril composed analogues. The interactions on portals were tested with organic cations. The third project presents molecule consisting of one glycoluril and four propanediurea units. It is especially focused on discovering and describing of the macrocycle self-association and its interactions with cations, both in methanol solutions. Moreover it is first cucurbituril derivative, which has been extensively studied in this solvent. The last part is devoted to the preparation of supramolecular polymer composed of pressocucurbituril derivative and organic linker. The material is manifested by the ability to adsorb the organic gaseous substances and the dissolved organic acids salts from their solutions. The supramolecular nature of material allows to adjusting stability for intended use and further it makes preparation very robust.
