Cambodian Tribunal: Comming to Terms with the Past

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je poskytnout čtenáři komplexní pohled na všechny tři její části. Dějinný vývoj kambodžské společnosti s důrazem na události moderní historie, které vedly k nástupu Rudých Khmerů v zemi. Na následnou charakteristiku období vlády tohoto komunistického režimu a konečně na činnost soudního tribunálu, který se se zločiny jeho čelních představitelů vypořádává. Výstupem této práce je odpověď na výzkumnou otázku: proč ke zřízení soudu s Rudými Khmery došlo až po téměř třiceti letech od pádu jejich režimu.

Abstract:

The goal of this bachelor's thesis is to provide a complex view on its three main parts. The first part concerns the historical development of Cambodian society with emphasis on the events of modern history that led to the rule of the Khmer Rouge. The second part characterize the reigning period of this communist regime and the last part finally covers the impact of the Tribunal that deals with the crimes perpetrated by the most senior members of the Khmer Rouge regime. The output of this thesis represents the answer to the research question: why did it take almost thirty years to establish the Tribunal.
