The Role of Literary Agents in Translations of Czech Fiction

Abstract:

Práce se bude zabývat rolí literárního agenta na knižním trhu a v literárním prostředí. V kontextu tuzemského historického vývoje se práce zaměří na období 20. století s přesahem do prvních desetiletí 21. století, domácí tradice literárního agentství bude konfrontována s případovou analýzou nizozemské literární agentury Pluh. Hlavním cílem je zjistit, jakou roli mají literární agenti či agentury v české literatuře, jaká je jejich historie, jak funguje proces poskytování autorských práv, překlady děl a jakým způsobem se proměňuje propagace české literatury v zahraničí.

Abstract:

The work will deal with the role of a literary agent in the book market and in the literary environment. In the context of domestic historical development, the work will focus on the period of the 20th century with overlap into the first decades of the 21st century, the domestic tradition of a literary agency will be confronted with a case analysis of the Dutch literary agency Pluh. The main goal is to find out what role literary agents play in Czech literature, what is their history, how the process of providing copyright works, and how the promotion of Czech literature abroad is changing.
