The evolution of fashion photography from Helmut Newton to the present

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem práce je zjistit a popsat fotografický stylu Helmuta Newtona a porovnat jeho práce s módní fotografií současnosti. V první části budou vysvětleny vybrané fotografické pojmy a pojmy, které pomůžou k lepšímu popsání Newtonovy tvorby. Zároveň bude u některých pojmů rozebrána jejich historie nebo popsána problematika s nimi spojená či uvedeni hlavní představitelé. Druhá část práce přiblíží osobní život Helmuta Newtona, jeho práci v různých redakcích v průběhu let a také úspěchy, kterých za svůj život dosáhl. Další text práce se věnuje určení vlivu jeho práce na současnou módní fotografii a styl glamour v ní používaný. Zaměřuje se také na kontext díla a jednotlivé prvky používané v různých stylech módní fotografie, které se v módních časopisech stále vyskytují. V neposlední řadě si pak čtenář bude moci přečíst také polo strukturovaný rozhovor s fotografem Tonem Stanem, který přibližuje osobnost Helmuta Newtona a dívá se na jeho práci z kritičtějšího pohledu.

Abstract:

The main goal of the bachelor's thesis is to find and describe the photographic style of Helmut Newton and to compare his work fashion photography of the present. In the first part of my bachelor's thesis are presented some selected photographic concepts and other terms that will help to describe Newton's work. The reader will also learn the issues that come with using these terms, or will be presented with it's historic context and main representatices. The second part of the work introduces the personal life of Helmut Newton, his work in various printed medias over the years and also the acomplisments he achieved during his lifetime. The next part of the work is devoted to discription of the influence of his work on contemporary fashion photography and the style of glamor used in it. It also focuses on the context of the work and the individual elements used in the various styles of fashion photography that still appear in fashion magazines. the reader will also be able to read a semi-structured interview with photographer Tone Stan, who introduces the personality of Helmut Newton and looks at his work from a more critical point of view.
