This thesis studies how two different characters of the United States literature ap-proach manhood. Henry Fleming from The Red Badge of Courage and Holden Caulfield from The Catcher in the Rye, are the protagonists of this paper in which the reader might find insights to understand how a pair of New York boys in different times conceive and perform the manhood that their environment promote.
