Valuation allowances from an accounting and tax perspective

Abstract:

Tato práce je zaměřena na problematiku opravných položek v českém účetnictví jak z účetního, tak z daňového pohledu. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. V teoretické části je vysvětlena základní charakteristika opravných položek a dalších pojmů s nimi souvisejících. Dále jsou představeny jednotlivé opravné položky, které lze dle zákona o účetnictví tvořit a jejich dopad do splatné a odložené daně. V praktické části je provedena analýza účetních závěrek vybraných společností, které se zaměřují na maloobchodní prodej zboží, s cílem ověřit hypotézu, že největší podíl opravných položek těchto společností tvoří opravné položky k zásobám a že jejich tvorba vstupuje do odložené daně. Tato hypotéza je v závěru potvrzena.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the issue of valuation allowances in Czech accounting from both accounting and tax perspectives. The work is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part explains the basic characteristics of valuation allowances and other related terms. Furthermore, the individual valuation allowances that can be created under the accounting law and their impact on current and deferred tax are presented. In the practical part, the financial statements of selected companies that focus on the retail sale of goods are analysed in order to test the hypothesis that the largest share of the valuation allowances of these companies consists of inventory valuation allowances and that their creation enters into deferred tax. This hypothesis is confirmed in the conclusion.
