Accounting and tax aspects of cryptocurrencies

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá účetními a daňovými aspekty kryptoměn. Práce charakterizuje vlastnosti a základní principy fungování kryptoměn a rovněž se věnuje právní úpravě kryptoměn v České republice, kde uživatele seznamuje s právní definicí kryptoměn, s možnostmi jejich ocenění a evidence v účetnictví, s problematikou daně z příjmů a daně z přidané hodnoty a případného osvobození od těchto daní. Práce se taktéž zabývá analýzou účetních a daňových podmínek pro kryptoměny ve Spolkové republice Německo a Slovenské republice včetně jejich komparace s podmínkami v České republice. Práce dále na základě modelového příkladu, vycházejícího z potřeb podnikatelského subjektu, analyzuje vhodné způsoby řešení vybrané hospodářské operace v kryptoměně z hlediska účetnictví a daní včetně možného technického řešení. Práce také vymezuje hlavní účetní a daňové změny u vybraného podnikatelského subjektu v případě zavedení plateb v Bitcoinech za zboží, výrobky a služby včetně následné směny přijatých Bitcoinů na českou měnu.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with accounting and taxation aspects of cryptocurrencies. It characterises the features and key principles of cryptocurrencies and also deals with the legislation on cryptocurrencies valid in the Czech Republic, describing the legal definition of cryptocurrencies, valuation and accounting record options, issues related to income tax and value added tax, as well as the potential exemption from taxation. The thesis also provides an analysis of accounting and taxation conditions for cryptocurrencies in the Federal Republic of Germany and the Slovak Republic, including a comparison with the conditions in the Czech Republic. Using a model example based on the needs of a business entity, the thesis analyses appropriate solutions to a selected business operation in cryptocurrency, as seen from the perspective of accounting and taxation, including a possible technical solution. Additionally, it specifies the main accounting and taxation changes in the entity after the implementation of Bitcoin payments for goods, products and services, including the exchange of the received Bitcoins for the Czech currency.
