This thesis is dedicated to the mythology of absinthe on the painting The Absinthe Drinker by a Czech painter Viktor Oliva. It describes the mythological system of Roland Barthes. The thesis includes information about absinthe as a beverage with history in connection with social change of perception, focussing on the territory of France.
