Social and economic development in the Baltic states before and after the entrance to the Europian Union

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá historickým vývojem Estonska, Lotyšska a Litvy od prvních republik až dodnes. Popisuje a analyzuje vývoj populace, výrazné změny ve struktuře obyvatelstva, zejména menšin, ke kterým došlo v průběhu sovětské okupace a po obnovení nezávislosti. Hodnotí data zjištěná během sčítání lidu v roce 2000 a zabývá se migračními pohyby. Nejvíce se práce věnuje samotné ekonomické transformaci z centrálně plánovitého hospodářství na tržní ekonomiku. Rozebírá zde průběh jednotlivých reforem , vývoj makroekonomických ukazatelů a změny zaznamenané v jednotlivých průmyslových odvětvích. Dále se věnuje vývoji ekonomiky po vstupu do EU a finanční krizi, která proběhla v pobaltských státech.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the historical development of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania since the first republic up to this day. It describes and analyses the population development, strong changes in the structure of population, especially minorities, which occurred during the Soviet occupation and after the restoration of independence. It evaluates data obtained during the 2000 census and deals with migration movements. The most important part of the work is the economic transformation of the central planned economy to the market economy. The process of separate reforms, development of macroeconomic indicators and changes in separate branches of industry are analysed here. Furthermore it deals with the development of economy after the entry to the EU and with a financial crisis, which took place in the Baltic states.
