Yslaire's vision of comics via motifs and symbols graphico-literal in Sambre

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with a Belgian comic book creator Bernard Hislaire, also known as Yslaire and his piece of work Sambre. Our objective was to find out how Yslaire himself would define the comics (bande dessinée in French). We divided our work into three parts: the first one outlines the evolution of francophone comics, terminology, paticularities of comic book reader skills and specifies the difference between the motif and the symbol, the second part is based on analysis of motifs and symbols in his writing and in the last part we focused on Yslaire as an author-scenarist, author-cartoonist and last but not least an author who incorporated into his work a lot of literary references to the days when the comic book is set in, thus the 19th century. These three points of view helped us to fully understand the author whose pecularity is exactness, we could even say craving for a pefection. We would like to point out that this piece of work (Sambre) that Yslaire commenced in the 80’s and which comprehends five volumes obtained a lot of international prices.

Abstract:

Bakalářská diplomová práce se zabývá autorem belgického komiksu Bernardem Hislairem, známého pod pseudonymem Yslaire, a jeho dílem Sambre. Naším cílem bylo zjistit, jak by zněla jeho definice komiksu (francouzsky bande dessinée). Práci jsme rozdělili do tří částí: v první části je nastíněn vývoj frankofonního komiksu, terminologie, specifické dovednosti, jež jsou vyžadovány čtenáře komiksu a dále vymezen rozdíl mezi symbolem a motivem, v druhé části jsme provedli analýzu motivů a symbolů v díle a v poslední části jsme se zaměřili na Yslaira jako autora-scénáristu, autora-kreslíře a také autora, který do svého díla zakomponoval spoustu literární odkazů na dobu, do které je dílo zasazeno, tedy do 19. století. Tento trojí pohled nám umožnil zcela uchopit autora, který se vyznačuje obrovskou precizností, kterou bychom mohli nazvat až touhou po dokonalosti. Nutno podotknout, že uvedené dílo, které Yslaire započal v 80. letech a je rozděleno do pěti svazků, sklidilo mnoho celosvětových cen.
