Psychological aspects of living with endometriosis

Abstract:

Tato magisterská diplomová práce je zaměřena na zkušenosti žen s endometriózou. V rámci Teoretické části je endometrióza představena jako onemocnění se svými symptomy, možnostmi diagnostiky a léčby, dále je popsána její typologie a jsou uvedeny organizace, které se na tuto nemoc zaměřují. V rámci Teoretické části je též popsáno, jakým způsobem endometrióza zasahuje do různých oblastí života žen. Ve Výzkumné části je prezentován kvalitativní výzkum využívající interpretativní fenomenologickou analýzu jako metodu analýzy dat získaných od celkem 5 respondentek – žen s endometriózou, které se uvolily pro účely výzkumu poskytnout rozhovor. Výsledné tematické okruhy, v nichž se odráží zkušenosti žen s endometriózou, se nazývají: Žití s endometriózou, Způsoby vnímání endometriózy, Sociální systém žen s endometriózou, a Zkušenosti se zdravotnictvím a alternativními možnostmi zvládání endometriózy. Zkušenosti žen obsažené v těchto tematických okruzích jsou v práci následně porovnány s výsledky předešlých studií, a na závěr práce jsou prezentovány limity a možnosti budoucího výzkumu.

Abstract:

This master’s thesis aims to describe experiences of women with endometriosis. In Theoretical section there is endometriosis presented as an illness with its symptoms, diagnostic and treatment options, then there is typology of endometriosis and also there are described organizations with focus on this illness. In Theoretical section there is also described a way through which endometriosis enters women’s lives. In Research section there is presented qualitative research, in which there is interpretative phenomenological analysis used to analyze data gained from 5 respondents – women with endometriosis who agreed to participate in an interview. As results there are thematic areas which contain experiences of women with endometriosis and which are named: Living with endometriosis, Ways of perceiving endometriosis, Social system of women with endometriosis, and Experiences with healthcare system and alternative ways of coping with endometriosis. The experiences of women presented in these thematic areas are subsequently compared with results of previous studies, and in the end of the thesis there are presented limits and future research options.
