A Methodological Handbook of Pronunciation for Czech Teachers of English and with a Focus on Young Learners

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je zhotovit metodickou příručku, která se zaměřuje na učení správné výslovnosti. Příručka je navržena pro aprobované i neaprobované učitele angličtiny. Teoretická část diplomové práce se zabývá metodologií a různými pohledy na tuto problematiku. Obsahuje několik metod a technik, které mohou být aplikovány při učení výslovnosti. Teoretická část dále vysvětluje termíny: angličtina jako cizí jazyk, angličtina jako druhý jazyk a lingua franca. V praktické části jsou stručně představeny cíle, struktura a důvody k napsání metodické příručky. Obsahuje také důležitou terminologii zabývající se učením a učením se výslovnosti, která se vyskytuje v této diplomové práci nebo v metodické příručce. Další část je věnována souhláskám a samohláskám ve stejném pořadí jako v příručce. Poslední kapitola se zaměřuje na básně, které jsem vytvořila konkrétně pro tuto metodickou příručku.

Abstract:

The aim of the present thesis is to construct a methodological handbook that focuses on teaching the correct pronunciation. The handbook is designed for both well-qualified and less experienced EFL teachers. The theoretical part of the diploma thesis deals with methodology and different perspectives of this matter. It consists of several methods and techniques that can be applied when teaching pronunciation. Theoretical part also explains terms: 'English as a foreign language', 'English as a second language', and 'lingua franca'. In the practical part, aims, structure, and purposes of methodological handbook are briefly introduced. It also includes important terminology concerning teaching and learning pronunciation that appears either in the present diploma thesis or in the methodological handbook. Next part is devoted to consonants and vowel sounds in the same order as in the handbook. The last chapter focuses on poems that I have created specifically for the methodological handbook.
