The economic integration of Venezuela in the context of the new regionalism

Abstract:

Dnešní svět je charakterizován neustále sílící globalizací, v jejímž rámci dochází k růstu iniciativ států spojovat se ve větší celky, aby tak mohly čelit světové konkurenci. Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá integračními procesy ve Venezuele. Cílem práce je odhadnout budoucí snahy Venezuely ohledně vzniku nových regionálních integrací a rovněž odhalit skutečnosti, kterými jsou tato úsilí podmíněna. Jako podklad pro uvedené zkoumání slouží analýza ekonomické situace Venezuely, na niž se zaměřuje první kapitola. Obsahem druhé kapitoly je charakteristika zahraničního obchodu a politicko-ekonomických vztahů s ostatními státy světa. Třetí kapitola se soustřeďuje na zhodnocení postavení Venezuely v nejvýznamnějších integračních celcích v teritoriu Latinské Ameriky. Pro takovou studii je Venezuela velmi zajímavým státem, jelikož je specifická v mnoha směrech. Její ropný průmysl je tahounem celé ekonomiky a významně ovlivňuje hospodářskou situaci země. V neposlední řadě hraje klíčovou roli politika současného prezidenta Huga Cháveze, který svérázným způsobem určuje směr, jakým se bude jeho země ubírat.

Abstract:

Today's world is characterized by continuous globalization and increasing initiatives of states to unify in bigger units in order to face up to the world-wide competition. This bachelor thesis deals with the integration process in Venezuela. The aim of the thesis is to estimate future efforts of Venezuela concerning the formation of new regional integrations and, as well, to reveal the conditions of these attempts. The analysis of the economic situation of Venezuela being the matter of the first chapter serves as groundwork for given investigation. The description of foreign trade and political-economic relations with the other states of the world are the object of the second chapter. The third chapter focuses on the outline of Venezuela's position in the most relevant integration entities in the territory of Latin America. Venezuela is a very interesting country for such study because of its specificity in many ways. Oil industry is a powerful mover of the entire economy and it significantly influences the economic state of the country. Last but not least, the current president Hugo Chávez's policy plays a crucial role because he determines direction in which the country is about to turn and all this is carried out in his individual way.
