Discriminatory practices in labour market: An experimental study on business plan evaluation

Anotácia:

Predmetom tejto diplomovej práce sú rodové nerovnosti na trhu práce, a to najmä tie, ktoré sú prítomné v podnikaní. Cieľom práce bude poskytnúť teoretický základ o rozdieloch medzi mužmi a ženami v oblasti podnikania a zamerať sa na překážky a odlišné správanie sa voči ženám, ktoré sa chcú stať podnikatelkami. Hlavným cieľom je empiricky overiť poznatky z literatúry o vplyve rodových stereotypov a predskudkov na hodnotenie start-upu, kterého autorkou je žena. Hlavným prínosom tejto práce je zistenie, že muži hodnotia očakávaný úspech, kompetencie a šance na úspech žien horšie, ako v prípade, že hodnotiteľ vyhodnocuje uchádzača rovnakého pohlavia. Naše výsledky sú taktiež v súlade s literatúrou a potvrdzujú, že vyššie implicitné presvedčenia o rodových rolách hodnotiteľov majú negatívny dopad na hodnotenie uchádzačov.

Abstract:

The subject of this thesis are gender inequalities in labour market, especially those that are present in entrepreneurship. The aim of this thesis is to provide the theoretical background on the gender gap in entrepreneurship and to focus on obstacles and different treatment of women, who want to become entrepreneurs. The main goal of this thesis is to empirically test the results found in the literature about gender stereotypes and prejudices and their impact on evaluation of women’s start-ups. The main contribution of this thesis is the finding that men evaluate women’s expected success, competencies, and success chance more negatively than in the scenario when evaluators are of same gender as applicants. Our results also support the findings that evaluators scoring higher in implicit theories about gender roles evaluate applicants less favourably.
