Responsive design for EasyMiner System

Abstract:

V dnešní době je pojem responsivní design velice aktuálním tématem a každý moderní a konkurenceschopný web by měl být naimplementován tak, aby byl pro koncové uživatele dostupný a použitelný na různých typech zařízení od mobilních telefonů až po monitory s vysokým rozlišením. EasyMiner je webový systém pro dolování asociačních pravidel a tvorbu klasifikačních modelů nad definovaným datasetem prostřednictvím uživatelského rozhraní funkčního v běžných webových prohlížečích. Toto uživatelské rozhraní nemá podporu responsivity. Cílem této diplomové práce je tedy tvorba responsivního designu pro systém EasyMiner.V rámci práce je popsána problematika responsivního designu, co tento pojem znamená a jak se tvoří. Dále jsou popsané technologie, které EasyMiner používá, kde jsou detailněji popsány sekce, které souvisí s frontendovou částí systému. Následně je v rámci práce analyzován současný stav problému neresponsivního uživatelského rozhraní a s tím spojené problémy a překážky pro uživatele. Na základě provedené analýzy byly navrženy změny uživatelského rozhraní. Tyto změny byly autorem práce implementovány a následně proběhlo testování použitelnosti upraveného rozhraní.Výsledek práce je úspěšně navržen a implementován responsivní design systému EasyMiner, který respektuje původní design a přidává nebo odebírá některé prvky pro zlepšení použitelnosti uživatelského rozhraní, zejména pro rozlišení, které používají dotykové zařízení (mobilní telefony a tablety). Práce může také sloužit jako inspirace pro tvorbu responsivního designu u dalších aplikací a napomáhá zlepšení výuky, kde se systém používá.

Abstract:

Today, the concept of responsive design is a very discussed theme and every modern and competitive website should be deployed so that it is available to end-users and it is usable on different types of devices, from mobile phones to high-resolution monitors. EasyMiner is a web-based association rule mining system and creates classification models over a defined dataset through a user-friendly interface in common web browsers. This user interface does not support responsivity. The aim of this thesis is to create a responsive design for EasyMiner.The thesis describes the issue of responsive design, what this term means and how it is created. Also describes the technologies that EasyMiner uses, where the sections related with front end of the system are described in more detail. Subsequently, the thesis analyses the current state of the problem of unresponsive user interface and related problems and obstacles for users. Based on the analysis, user interface changes were proposed. These changes were implemented by the author and then the usability of the modified interface was tested.The result of the thesis is a successfully designed and implemented responsive design of EasyMiner, which respects the original design and adds or removes some elements to improve the usability of the user interface, especially for the resolution used by touch devices (mobile phones and tablets). Thesis can also serve as an inspiration for creating responsive design for other applications and helping to improve teaching where the system is used.
