Abstract:

Abstrakt Ghana se převážně spoléhá na malorolnické zemědělství, které je vnímáno jako klíčový faktor pro ekonomický růst a rozvoj země. Nicméně, snahy o plné využití tohoto potenciálu byly v průběhu času brzděny. Cílem této studie je tudíž detailně zkoumat faktory, jež stojí v cestě modernizačnímu úsilí v zemědělském sektoru Ghany. K získání dat byl použit sekundární zdroj informací a kvantitativní přístup, konkrétně prostřednictvím strukturovaných dotazníků, aplikovaných ve třech regionech (Ashanti, Brong Ahafo a východní regiony) v jižní části země, s celkovým vzorkem 400 malorolnických zemědělců. Z výzkumu vyplynulo, že hlavními překážkami pro modernizaci zemědělského sektoru jsou nedostatečná efektivita, nedostatečné veřejné investice do zemědělské infrastruktury ze strany vlády, nedostatek moderních technologií a nevyhovující zavlažovací systémy. Dále, malorolnickým zemědělcům chybí dostatečný přístup k vládní podpoře a čelí výzvám v oblasti financování moderního zemědělského vybavení. Většina zemědělců stále používá zastaralé nástroje, jako jsou hrábě či srpy. Vzhledem k těmto zjištěním se doporučuje, aby vláda zvýšila své investice do zemědělského sektoru a poskytla podporu a stimuly pro malorolnické zemědělce. Dále je nezbytné poskytnout vhodné vzdělávací a školicí programy, které by podpořily adopci moderních zemědělských technik, včetně používání organických hnojiv a agroekologických přístupů, s cílem podpořit udržitelné zemědělství.

Abstract:

Abstract Ghana primarily relies on smallholder agriculture and the sector has been recognized as a panacea to Ghana’s economic growth and development. However, the efforts to annex the potential have been hampered over the years. The study therefore aimed to examine the factors that hinder the modernization agenda of the agricultural sector in Ghana. The survey data was collected using secondary sources and quantitative approach (structured questionnaires) from three regions (Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, and Eastern regions) in the southern belt of Ghana with a sample size of 400 smallholder farmers. The research found that there is a lack of efficiency, low public spending of government in the agricultural sector, inadequate contemporary agricultural technologies, and poor irrigational facilities. In addition, smallholder farmers do not have access to government support, and it is extremely difficult to afford modern agricultural equipment for their farming activities. Most farmers still use primitive equipment such as hoes, cutlasses, among others. Based on these findings, the researcher recommends that the government should increase its expenditure in the agricultural sector and provide support and incentives to farmers. There should also be training and educational facilities to encourage farmers to adopt good farming practices such as the use of organic fertilizers and agro-ecological approaches to promote sustainable agriculture.
