Upper Secondary School Students' Strategies of Learning for Biology Classes

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce s názvem Strategie učení se studentů středních škol do předmětu biologie se zabývá analýzou současného stavu využívání učebních strategií středoškolskými žáky. Cílem této práce je zjistit, jaké strategie používají žáci středních škol při studiu biologie, jaké edukační zdroje preferují a jakým způsobem jejich učení probíhá. Dále se práce zaměřuje na identifikaci faktorů, které mohou proces tohoto učení ovlivňovat. Teoretická část práce se zabývá definicí pojmu učení, vymezením klíčových termínů, jako jsou učební styly a strategie a jejich nejznámějšími klasifikacemi. Tato část práce zahrnuje také nejnovější poznatky z výzkumů, provedených v oblasti strategií učení. Empirická část pomocí kvalitativně orientovaného výzkumu analyzuje učební strategie žáků středních škol. Se sedmi žáky gymnázia byly vedeny polostrukturované rozhovory. Získané údaje jsou vyhodnoceny prostřednictvím obsahové analýzy a podrobně interpretovány. Z výzkumu vyplývá, že se žáci při učení spoléhají primárně na své vlastní zápisky z hodin, přičemž aktivně využívají rozmanité metody, jako je vypisování poznámek, zvýrazňování důležitých pasáží nebo hlasité přeříkávání textu. Pro dlouhodobé udržení informací v paměti je pro ně klíčové pravidelné opakování.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis, entitled Upper Secondary School Students' Strategies of Learning for Biology Classes, analyses the current state of the use of learning strategies by secondary school students. The aim of this thesis is to find out what strategies are used by secondary school students in the study of biology, what educational resources they prefer and how their learning takes place. Furthermore, the thesis aims to identify factors that may influence this learning process. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the definition of the concept of learning, the definition of key terms such as learning styles and strategies and their most well-known classifications. This part of the thesis also includes the latest findings from research conducted in the field of learning strategies. The empirical part uses qualitative research to analyse the learning strategies of secondary school students. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven high school students. The data obtained are evaluated through content analysis and interpreted in detail. The research shows that pupils rely primarily on their own class notes for learning, actively using a variety of methods such as writing out notes, highlighting important passages or reciting the text aloud. For them, regular repetition is key to retaining information in memory over the long term.
