Using Biometric Identification Systems in Criminalistics and Forensic Sciences

Abstract:

Ve své bakalářské práci se věnuji biometrickým identifikačním metodám používaným v kriminalistické praxi. Hlavním cílem teoretické části mé práce je popsat vybrané identifikační metody, zejména z hlediska historie, obecných charakteristik a informačních systémů používaných k dané metodě. Teoretická část se opírá o používanou odbornou literaturu. Praktická část mé práce, která se zabývá identifikací na základě tvaru a otisků ucha, se skládá ze dvou důležitých cílů. Prvním z nich je zjištění podobností nebo odlišností na základě pohlaví či dědičnosti pomocí porovnávání uší podle jejich tvaru a rozměrů. Druhým cílem praktické části je demonstrovat, zda otisk ucha může vést k individuální identifikaci.

Abstract:

In my bachelor’s thesis I am dealing with biometric identification methods used in practice of criminalistics. The theoretical part of my thesis aims at the description of the chosen identification method, especially with regards to history, general characteristics and information systems used within the particular method. It refers to acknowledged scientific literature. The practical part of my thesis, dealing with identification based on ear shapes and prints, sets two important goals. The first goal is achieved by examining similarities and differences in terms of gender or heredity, by comparison of ears according to their shapes and sizes. The second goal lies in a demonstration whether an ear print can lead to the identification of an individual.
