New wave in Czechoslovakia and the reaction of the totalitarian regime

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce mapuje směr tzv. nové vlny v hudbě a s ním spojené kulturní dění na přelomu 70. a 80. let 20. století jak ve Velké Británii a ve Spojených státech amerických, tedy v místech vzniku tzv. nové vlny, tak i v tehdejším Československu. Poskytuje informace o tomto hudebním žánru v závislosti na vývoj české nonartificiální hudby. Obsaženy jsou stručné profily vybraných českých skupin, jež jsou k nové vlně řazeny jako jedny z nevýznamnějších interpretů tohoto hudebního hnutí: Abraxas, Máma Bubo, Jasná Páka a Hudba Praha, Pražský výběr, Precedens a další. Dále tato práce uvádí příklady, jak reagovala tehdejší totalitní moc v Československu na tvorbu novovlnných souborů a umělců.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis charts the music genre of "new wave" and related cultural events in 1970's and 1980's in Great Britain and USA where the "new wave" was created and in the former Czechoslovakia. It also provides information about this music genre depending on the development of Czech popular music. This thesis contains brief profiles of selected Czech rock bands, which are counted as ones of the most eminent of the "new wave": Abraxas, Máma Bubo, Jasná Páka and Hudba Praha, Pražský výběr, Precedens etc. It also gives examples of reaction of the Czechoslovakian totalitarian power to the work of the bands and artists of the "new wave".
