Self-reflection in teaching languages

Abstract:

Abstrakt Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na sebereflexi učitelů-lektorů cizích jazyků. Úvodní kapitoly teoretické části se soustředí na stručnou historii sebereflexe a další ukazují teoretické podklady k sebereflexi, některé moderní metody měření stupně sebereflexe a pojednávají o způsobech sebereflexe, použití a praktičnosti sebereflexe při konání náročné práce učitele cizích jazyků. Druhá část je věnována praktickému využití sebereflexe a pomocí kvalitativního výzkumu, dotazníků a částečně strukturovaného rozhovoru předkládá pět případových studií skutečných učitelek cizího jazyka. Srovnání a závěr pak přináší zjištění toho, nakolik a jakou formou je skutečně v praxi sebereflexe využívána. Cílem kvalitativního výzkumu je zjistit, zda a jaké metody, pomůcky či nástroje učitelé používají při sebereflektivních činnostech. Výsledky a získaný závěr pak může pomoci učitelům-lektorům a stát se pomůckou či inspirací pro další učitele jazyků.

Abstract:

Abstract This bachelor thesis is focusing on self-reflection of language teachers. First chapters of theoretical part are zooming in brief history of self-reflection and next ones deal with theoretical basis for self-reflection, some modern methods of measuring degrees of selfreflection and discussing forms of self-reflection, usage and practicality of self-reflection when practicing difficult job of teaching languages. Second part is mostly dedicated to practical research and usage via qualitative research, assessment tests and semi-structured interviews by having done five practical case studies with real teachers of foreign languages. Comparison and summary offers knowledge about how, how much and in what form is selfreflection really used in real life. The goal of qualitative research here is finding out if and what kinds of methods, tools and ways researchers are using while doing self-reflective activities. Results and final summary then can help and be of useful tool and inspirational for new teachers.
