The cultural and aesthetic aspects of the term landscape character

Abstract:

Práce poukazuje na kulturní a estetické souvislosti krajinného rázu a irelevantnost některých přístupů k jeho uchopení či hodnocení. První část práce se zaměřuje na počátky formování pojmu krajinný ráz a zabývá se okolnostmi, které měly výrazný vliv na vývoj chápání tohoto pojmu. V další části práce je pak nastíněna spojitost mezi dnešním a minulým vztahováním se k rázu krajiny. Stěžejní částí práce je reflexe současného pojetí estetického a kulturního rámce krajinného rázu, která se zaměřuje se na autory metodik určených k jeho hodnocení. Práce zkoumá, do jaké míry autoři reflektují v metodikách současný vývoj humanitních disciplín, především pak estetiky, a poukazuje na jisté inkonzistence v těchto metodikách. Posléze jsou nastíněny negativní dopady, které tyto inkonzistence mohou mít, a jsou také předložena možná řešení, jak jim předejí

Abstract:

The thesis describes the cultural and aesthetic contexts of landscape character, and analyzes some inconsistencies in its interpretation and assessment. The opening part of the thesis focuses on the historical background of the notion of landscape character and summarizes the circumstances that have had a crucial effect on its development. The following part examines the connection between the history of the term and the way it is understood nowadays. The main part of the thesis is an analysis of current approaches to the cultural and aesthetic dimension of landscape character, focused on authors who have written methodologies for its assessment. It examines whether the authors reflect the recent developments in the field of arts and humanities – especially aesthetics – and points out some inconsistencies in their methods. In its end, the thesis warns about negative impacts of these inconsistencies and proposes possible solutions for how to avoid them.
