Witch Processes on Jesenicko and Šumpersko (Gendrer Aspect)

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá čarodějnickými procesy na Jesenicku a Šumpersku v 17. století a je zaměřena na genderový aspekt. Bylo potřeba se blíže podívat na důvody, proč byla žena považována za hříšnou, a tudíž snáze podléhající ďáblu; co vedlo k čarodějnickým procesům na Jesenicku a Šumpersku; jak zasahovala v čarodějnických procesech světská a církevní moc; jaké bylo mužské zastoupení v čarodějnických procesech apod. K nalezení odpovědi na otázky, bylo potřeba nejdříve všeobecněji nastínit jak historické události tamní doby, tak vývoj samotného čarodějnictví od starověku. Ve středověku sílí strach z ďábla, protože slábne víra v Boha, a to převažuje až do novověku. S původem a pojetím ďábla je možné se setkat v Bibli. S tím souvisí dědičný hřích, který zdůrazňuje slabost ženy a charakterizuje ženu coby hříšnou, což je jedním z předpokladů čarodějnice. Práce se zaměřuje na původ čarodějnických procesů, historické události vedoucí k jejich vzniku, náboženskou pozici církve, působení a moci lidových pověr, postavení žen a mužů v tamní společnosti a v rodině.

Abstract:

Diploma thesis concerns the witch-hunts in the area of Jeseník and Šumperk in the 17th century especially from the gender point of view. It looks closely at the reasons why woman was taken as sinful and therefore more easily governed by devil; what led to witch-hunts in Jeseníky and Šumperk area; how did the mundane and church power influenced these witch-hunts; and lastly how many men were taking part in these hunts. To be able to answer these questions it was necessary to firstly outline the historical events of that period and the development of witchcraft from the ancient times. The growing fear from devil in the Middle Ages caused by the lowering faith in God led to the process which lasted until the Modern Period. As it is possible to meet the conception of devil in the Bible. It is connected with the hereditary sin which emphasizes the weakness of woman and charecterizes woman as sinful- one of the typical presumption of being a witch. Thesis is focussed on the origin of witch-hunts, the historical events which led to their appearance, the position of church, influence and the power of folk superstitions, the position of women and men in the society and family.
