A Modern-day Patronage of the Fine Arts

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je zmapování současného stavu mecenášství v České republice, a to v úzce vymezené oblasti výtvarného umění. Práce hledá odpovědi na tyto otázky: V jakém stádiu vývoje se aktuálně nachází mecenášství výtvarného umění u nás a jaké jsou příčiny současného stavu? Můžeme v této oblasti vysledovat nějaké tendence? Popřípadě jaké? Jaké místo zaujímá mecenášství výtvarného umění v systému financování české kultury? Jaká je motivace mecenášů a mecenášek podporovat výtvarné umění a jaké jsou jejich inspirační zdroje? Jakými způsoby se o podporu snaží a s jakým úspěchem? Diplomová práce se skládá z úvodní teoretické části obsahující seznam a objasnění základních pojmů, stručnou historii mecenášství včetně představení nejvýznamnějších českých mecenášů a analýzu současného stavu financování kultury. Ta se zaměřuje především na instituce a další subjekty působící v oblasti výtvarného umění. Praktická část obsahuje metodologii výzkumu a především vyhodnocení polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s významnými českými mecenáši a mecenáškami. Svým obsahem práce reflektuje aktuální téma potřeby rozvoje vícezdrojového financování české kultury.

Abstract:

The aim of this diploma thesis is to map the current state of the fine arts patronage in the Czech Republic. The thesis seeks answers to these questions: At what stage of development is the patronage of fine arts in our country and what are the causes of the current state? Can we trace any tendencies in this area? And what are they like? What is the position of fine arts patronage in the system of financing Czech culture? What is the motivation of patrons to promote art and what are their sources of inspiration? In what ways do they support the fine arts and with what success? The diploma thesis consists of an introductory theoretical part containing a list and clarification of the basic terms, a brief history of fine arts patronage including the presentation of the most important Czech patrons and an analysis of the current state of culture financing. It focuses mainly on institutions and other subjects active in the field of fine arts. The practical part contains research methodology and especially evaluation of semi-structured interviews with important Czech patrons. The content of the thesis reflects the current need for multi-source financing of the cultural sector.
