The HOPE method and its application in English language teaching

Abstract:

This diploma thesis focuses on presenting a new form of home-preparation and its application in high school English lessons. The theoretical part is design to provide a basic view of theories behind teaching and their influence on teaching. It also focuses on memory and motivation as they are inseparable parts of successful teaching. The thesis takes advantage of the long list of research to demonstrate their benefits and shortcomings. It then stipulates the need for a different approach. This new method is presented NS described in order to demonstrate the rationale behind it and how it responds to the needs of today's society and schooling. The practical part of this thesis focuses on the application of the HOPE method in real classroom and how it could be applied in teaching practice. The research was conducted on high school of Diplomacy and public relations. s.r.o. in Most. A sample of results and opinions collected from two groups of students of parallel classes serves as a basis for the confirmation or denial of the thesis hypothesis. A questionnaire is used to gather data about their attitude and motivation towards studying and preparing at home. Their academic results are evaluated to demonstrate the practical benefits of the method. The research found an increase in both motivation and frequency of preparation in students who were subjected to the HOPE method. Students who used the HOPE method generally had better results than their pears, this was more evident in testing attitude towards homework.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na prezentaci pozměněné formy přípravy na výuku a její aplikace ve výuce anglického jazyka na střední škole. Teoretická část je navržena tak, aby poskytla základní pohled na teorie vyučování a jejich vliv na výuku. Zaměřuje se také na paměť a motivaci, protože jsou nedílnou součástí úspěšného procesu učení. Tato nová metoda je představena s cílem demonstrovat důvody pro její vznik, a to, jak reaguje na potřeby dnešní společnosti a školství. Praktická část této práce demonstruje použití metody HOPE v reálné výuce a jak její aplikaci. Výzkum byl veden na střední škole diplomacie a veřejné správy s.r.o. v Mostě. Tento výzkum kvantifikuje výsledky a názory studentů. Tyto data byli získány od dvou skupin studentů paralelních tříd. Dotazník byl použit ke shromažďování údajů o jejich postoji k anglickému jazyku a motivaci ke studují a domácí přípravě. Jejich studijní výsledky byli také zkoumány, aby demonstrovaly praktické výhody této metody. Výzkum zjistil zvýšení motivace a frekvence přípravy u studentů, kteří byli podrobeni metodě HOPE. Studenti, kteří používali metodu HOPE měli obecně lepší výsledky než jejich spolužáci. To bylo patrnější v testech, které byly navrženy tak, aby zahrnovaly cvičení dříve praktikovaná doma.
