Dynamics of minimal social interaction

Abstract:

Cílem práce bylo prozkoumat roli interpersonální synchronizace během detekce přítomnosti druhého člověka při interakci. Participanti se účastnili minimální haptické interakce, během níž byl zaznamenáván jejich pohyb a elektrodermální aktivita. Stupeň interpersonální synchronizace byl stanoven prostřednictvím rekurentní analýzy. Následně byl stanoven vliv interpersonální synchronizace na úspěšnost detekce druhého člověka v interakci. Výsledky ukazují, že motorická synchronizace není významným faktorem při detekci druhého člověka, avšak synchronizace elektrodermální aktivity významně predikuje úspěšnost v detekci intencionality. Oproti očekávání s klesající synchronizací elektrodermální aktivity stoupá šance na úspěšnou identifikaci partnera v interakci. Tento výsledek naznačuje, že chování participantů při percepčním překřížení je komplementární. Výsledky dále dokládají důležitost synchronizace arousalu pro sdílenou interpretaci sociální aktivity a detekci intencionality. Další výzkum je ale nutný ke stanovení přesné závislosti mezi synchronizací arousalu a úspěšností v odhalení přítomnosti druhého člověka během minimální interakce.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis was to examine a role of interpersonal synchrony during intentionality detection. Participants were engaged in perceptual crossing task and both their movement and electrodermal activity were recorded. The level of interpersonal synchrony was computed using cross-recurrence quantification analysis. After that, the influence of synchrony on successful identification of partner in interaction was accessed. Results show no effect of motor synchrony on the success in identification of partner in the interaction but the effect of electrodermal synchrony is significant. Contrary to expectations, growing chance to succeed in perceptual crossing task is related to decreasing synchrony in electrodermal activity suggesting complementarity of participants’ behavior. The results highlight the importance of arousal synchrony for participatory sense-making and intentionality detection. However, the exact relationship between arousal synchrony and intentionality detection is a subject for future investigation.
