Vampirism and Lycanthropy: The phenomenon of contemporary fantasy literature

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je rozdělena na dvě hlavní části ? část teoretickou a praktickou. Teoretická část se věnuje vampyrismu a lykantropii v historickém kontextu zejména z etnografického hlediska. Dále se zabývám teorií populární kultury, na které je fenomén fantasy literatury s upíří tématikou založen. Největší prostor je věnován samotné fantasy literatuře s upíří tématikou. Aby tato kapitola mohla být považována za komplexní, považovala jsem za nutné, byť jen okrajově, zmínit počátky vampyrismu a lykantropie ve fantasy literatuře. V kapitole zabývající se současnou fantasy literaturou předkládám podžánry, které svým zaměřením spadají do fantasy literatury s upíří tématikou. Také se věnuji obeznámení s nadpřirozenými bytostmi z literárního hlediska. Praktická část je věnována kvantitativnímu výzkumu, jehož hlavním předmětem je dotazník, který byl předložen určitému počtu respondentů. Téma výzkumu jsem zvolila následovně: ?Fantasy literatura s upíří tématikou?. Následuje vyhodnocení dotazníku, interpretace odpovědí a verifikace či falsifikace predeterminovaných hypotéz.

Abstract:

The thesis is divided into two main parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part deals with vampirism and lycanthropy in the historical context, especially from an ethnographic perspective. I also deal with the theory of popular culture, which is the phenomenon of fantasy literature with the vampire theme based. Most space is devoted to fantasy literature with the vampire theme. To this chapter may be regarded as complex, I thought it necessary, although marginally, to mention the beginnings of vampirism and lycanthropy in fantasy literature. In the chapter dealing with contemporary fantasy literature I present subgenres that fall into the fantasy literature with vampire themes. I also acquaint with supernatural beings from a literary point of view. The practical part is devoted to quantitative research, where the main is a questionnaire, which was submitted to a number of respondents. I chose a research topic as follows: Fantasy literature with a vampire theme. Follow the evaluation of the questionnaire responses, interpretations and verification or falsification of predetermined hypotheses.
