Civilising diseases in the Antiquity

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce na téma "Civilizační nemoci starověku" shrnuje poznatky o chorobách, které dnes trápí naši civilizaci nejčastěji a považujeme za civilizační. Porovnává pojetí nemocí mezi starověkým a současným moderním světem. Cílem práce je dokázat, že civilizační nemoci nejsou jen otázkou doby, kdy člověk podlehl průmyslu a technice, ale, že do určité míry byly vždy součástí lidského života. Práce obsahuje poznatky moderních i starověkých lékařů o jednotlivých nemocech a o jejich léčebných přístupech doplněné o závěry paleopatologických studií, které dokládají jejich existenci.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis "Civilising diseases in the Antiquity"summarizes the knowlidge about the diseases that plague our civilization most often today and we consider them civilizing. It compares the concept of disease between the ancient and contemporary modern worlds. The aim of the work is to show that civilising diseases are not only a matter of the time when man succumbed to industry and technology, but that, to some extent, they were always part of human life. The thesis contains the knowledge of modern and ancient doctors of individual diseases and their therapeutic approaches, supplemented by the conclusions of paleopathological studies, which prove their existence.
