Anotácia:

Tato práce se zabývá zobrazením postavy šílené ženy v Gotickém hororu. Práce se soustředí na literární díla The Turn of the Screw (Henry James), The Haunting of Hill House (Shirley Jackson) a jejich filmové adaptace The Innocents (Jack Clayton) a The Haunting (Robert Wise). Analýza práce zkoumá konstrukci nejednoznačnosti, uvěznění a identity. Tato práce demonstruje, že ženské postavy v zmíněných dílech jsou podmíněny k šílenství bez ohledu na existenci nadpřirozena.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the portrayal of the madwoman character in Gothic horror, both in its literary and cinematic form. The thesis focuses on Henry James’s The Turn of the Screw (1989), Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House (1959), and their respective film adaptations Jack Clayton’s The Innocents (1961) and Robert Wise’s The Haunting (1963). The analysis examines the primary sources for their construction of ambiguity, confinement, and identity. The thesis demonstrates that the characters are conditioned as madwomen regardless of the supernatural presence.
